Handcrafted in the Blue Ridge Mountains

Born just outside Washington, D.C. and raised in the scenic foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Fauquier County, I grew up surrounded by nature, art, and a deep appreciation for things made by hand. The rolling hills of Virginia horse country, hiking Old Rag Mountain as a child, annual drives along Skyline Drive, anniversaries at The Inn at Little Washington, and even my wedding at Blue Rock Inn (back when it was spelled Bleu πŸ˜‰) are all woven into the fabric of my life. How could a place like this not shape the way I create? Whether it's a 7th-anniversary copper gift or a piece of wearable art for your wedding day, I create with those milestones in mind.

I think my love for handcrafted jewelry truly took root at the Warrenton Spring Festival. There was one booth I returned to every year β€” the same maker, the same table β€” selling necklaces with hand-blown glass beads from Italy. I was completely taken with them. Looking back, it wasn't just the jewelry I loved, but the feeling of knowing who made it and carrying that memory with me. Those moments still influence my work today.

For the past twenty years, I've made my home in Rappahannock County with my husband and our three children. Surrounded by Virginia's quiet beauty, I've been able to fully explore my creative life. More recently, inheriting a jewelry business opened a new chapter β€” one that led me to establish Carrie Foscato Design, where I create handmade, wire-wrapped jewelry one piece at a time.

Even the logo carries a story. That simple green shape? Look closely and you'll find a C, an F, and a D β€” all hidden in one mark, for Carrie Foscato Design. But it's also something more personal: green is my favorite color, and orange is my husband's. The two colors you see throughout this brand aren't just an aesthetic choice β€” they're us. Every piece of copper that warms to your skin, every flash of green in the packaging β€” a little piece of our story is woven into all of it.

Life here in the Blue Ridge foothills is full in the best possible way. I share this property with my husband, our kids, a dog (Susan for Blackeyed Susans), two cats (Carmello and Meadow), several chickens and turkeys, and Gideon β€” a bearded dragon who has very strong opinions about everything. 🦎 Our land is also a certifiedΒ Audubon Wildlife Sanctuary β€” planted with native species and gardens designed to support bees and pollinators, shelter migrating birds, and provide refuge for Virginia's wildlife. The same instinct that draws me to real metals and honest materials is the one that keeps me out in the garden, tending to something that matters. It all comes from the same place.

Materials That Last a Lifetime

Every design is made by me, at my bench, using sterling silver, bare copper, and natural gemstones. Nothing is outsourced. Nothing is mass-produced. I don't create jewelry for trends or seasons β€” I create pieces meant to live a life with you.

Someday, these won't be just a pair of earrings.
They'll be the ones you always wore.

I believe jewelry should feel personal β€” not flashy, not disposable, but meaningful. Real metals matter, not just for their beauty, but for comfort and longevity. Cheap materials can irritate skin or fail over time, and that's something I never want for you. My mother and daughter have metal allergies, and can't wear cheap alloys or fast-fashion jewelry. That's why I work exclusively with solid, unplated copper and sterling silverβ€”materials chosen for their weight, longevity, and natural beauty - creating hypoallergenic wearable art you can enjoy every day, without worry.

Teaching the Craft

Through my growing YouTube channel, I also share my love for jewelry-making itself, offering tutorials for those who want to learn this fulfilling craft. What started as teaching has turned into genuine connection β€” not just subscribers, but friends β€” and that has been one of the greatest surprises of this journey. Such a joy guiding others to create a story, a legacy, with their own handcrafted jewelry.

I look forward to continuing to develop new collections like the botanical herb charm earrings, participating in artisan craft shows, and deepening my roots in the local and regional handmade community. If you'd like to know where I'll be selling in person, I'd love for you to sign up for emails and follow along.

Beyond the Bench

The same philosophy follows me into the kitchen.

Real ingredients. Real metals. Real craft. I don't believe in mystery β€” whether it's what goes on my skin or what I put in your hands.

Thank you for being here and for supporting handcrafted work. I hope you'll explore my collections and find something that speaks to you β€” or at the very least, something that feels just right with your favorite outfit. πŸ˜‰
