This Hereford cow lives out in Gid Brown Hollow in Rappahannock County, Virginia — and she was kind enough to sit for a portrait. Painted in oils on a 10" round canvas, her white face and deep brown coat are rendered with quiet realism against a soft sage green background. The circular format gives it the feel of a vintage tondo, or a piece of painted porcelain — something that feels both rustic and refined.

There's a gentleness to her expression that's hard to look away from. She'd be right at home in a farmhouse kitchen, a study, or anywhere you want a little personality on the wall.
